Dr. Alex Ajayi
Licensed Psychologist and Proprietor
I help individuals and couples navigate difficult thoughts, emotions, relationships, and life transitions while building lives that feel more meaningful and aligned with what matters most to them. I have particular experience helping clients with:
Anxiety and chronic stress
Trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Relationship conflict or disconnection
Questions about identity, meaning, or direction
Academic, career, or life transitions
Difficulties related to food, body image, or eating
Feeling stuck, emotionally overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward
My approach to Therapy
At times, efforts to avoid or control painful thoughts and feelings can leave us feeling increasingly stuck. Therapy can provide a space to approach these experiences with greater openness, develop a more flexible relationship with them, and take meaningful action toward the life and relationships you want. My work is strongly informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and I also integrate other evidence-based approaches, including:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD
Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples and individuals
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
Motivational Interviewing
Person-Centered Therapy
Education and Clinical Experience
I hold a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Minnesota. I have provided psychotherapy and assessment services in diverse clinical settings including hospitals, community clinics, private practice, and academic centers. These experiences have prepared me to work with a wide range of concerns while tailoring treatment to each client’s individual needs and goals.
Research & Teaching
In addition to clinical practice, I am an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Minnesota, where I conduct research, teach specialized courses in counseling psychology, and advise undergraduate and graduate students. I also direct the Identity and Well-Being Research Lab at the University of Minnesota, where I work with a team of graduate and undergraduate students conducting research focused on the intersection of identity, culture, and well-being.
